Cinnamon, which comes from the bark of evergreen trees, has been around for thousands of years. Cinnamon powder has been widely regarded as having many medicinal benefits. There are two main types of cinnamon: Ceylonese or True Cinnamon and Cassia. The slight difference is due to the trees that the cinnamon is harvested from. Ceylon cinnamon is primarily found in Sri Lanka and is relatively uncommon. The majority of cinnamon that is used everyday and found in stores is Cassia cinnamon.
